SMR 2008 Annual Meeting, June 20-22 2008,
Old Fort Parker in Limestone County, Texas
Old Fort Parker is located off Highway 14 approximately 40 miles east of Waco and 1.5 hours south of Dallas. Reservations are taken Wednesday through Sunday, 9 am – 5 pm CST, by calling 254.729.5253. This is a non-profit organization and they cannot afford to return your call so don’t leave a message, just keep trying during those hours on those days until you reach someone.
Accommodations at the Fort include:
18 rooms that sleep 2 people in a camp house arrangement for $35 per night. Restrooms are dormitory style. Rooms have double, queen size or bunk beds – be sure to specify which one you want. Sheets and towels are provided.
RV connections for water and electric are available for $15- $18 per night. There is a dump station on site.
Tent camping is available for $10 per night. Restrooms and showers are available on site.
The Visitor Center will be used for the meeting and some of the meals.
Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash at all times and a deposit will be required if staying in one of the rooms.
Pens/stalls are NOT available. You must bring your own pens if you bring horses.
There WILL be a trail ride on Saturday, June 21 at the Fort.
There WILL be a trail ride on Friday, June 20 at the Dildine’s CJ 8 Ranch, which is approximately 40 miles from the Fort.
The Limestone Inn in Groesbeck is 4 ½ miles from the Fort. Average cost for a room is $60 per night. Phone: 254.729.3017.
The Best Western in Mexia is 8 miles from the Fort. Average cost for a night is $90. Phone: 254.562.0200.
Many more hotel selections are available in Waco, approximately 40 miles away.
